Roshan Mathew, who played a police officer in Shahi Kabir’s Ronth, is back in khaki for director M Padmakumar’s next, Uyir, the first look of which was revealed on April 26, 2026. Padmakumar, who is known for films like Joseph, Shikar, Vargam, and Vaasthavam, has chosen a real-life tale for Uyir. The film is based on a story written by Inspector Anshad, which has been adapted for the screen by Shaji Marad and Nikhil K Menon. The first look was revealed with an accompanying post that read, “Some truths refuse to stay buried”.
Roshan plays probationary sub Inspector Ajeeb in the film set at a police station in Kannur. The actor is joined by Shruti Menon, Baiju Santhosh, Vineeth Thattil, Divya M Nair, Santhosh Trivikram, Shaju Sridhar, Srikanth Murali, Vinod Sagar, Athulya Chandra, Saiyami Kher, Mahesh Shetty, among others. The team has shot the film across locations in Madikeri, Thalassery, Palakkad, Kochi and Mumbai.
Ajay David Kachappilly, who is known for films like Porinju Mariam Jose and Garudan, is in charge of the film’s cinematography, while Manikandan Ayyappa has been roped in for music and Ranjan Abraham as editor. The first look reveal kickstarts promotions of the film, although a theatrical release date is yet to be confirmed.
Investigative thrillers continues to be one of the most popular genres in Malayalam cinema. This year, there have already been films like Dheeram, Sambhavam Adhyayam Onnu, Valathu Vashathe Kallan, etc., while Shane Nigam slips into khaki with Dridam in May, while Kunchacko Boban adds to his growing list of cop movies with Unmadham. Jayasurya will be seen as an intelligence officer in Operation Tral, while the Mammootty-led Patriot also has an investigation at its core.
