Dubbed a love-hate letter to Malayalam cinema, Mollywood Times followed Naslen as Vineeth Madhavan, a youngster from Kuttikanam, whose sole goal in life is to make the world’s best horror film as his debut venture. Although his friends and family warn him about the harsh realities of the film industry, he soldiers on undeterred, determined to achieve his goal.
After making a bunch of short films, Vineeth makes the leap to feature film but then faces industry politics, creative conflicts, questions of authorship, challenges of maintaining artistic integrity, all of which affect his personal and professional spaces. Mollywood Times received mixed reviews during its theatrical run, with some viewers pointing out that director Abhinav’s brutal honesty about the Malayalam industry would not be palatable for all.
Mollywood Times was recently in the news after the censor board alleged that the makers had screened the film without the recommended cuts and mutes. A case was filed against the team for the same.
