Karuppu, the Tamil fantasy-action blockbuster, which opened in theatres on May 15, after a last-minute issue with distributors forced a day’s delay, had a good run at the box office. The film, led by Suriya and directed by RJ Balaji is now set for its OTT debut. The digital streaming rights had been picked up by Amazon Prime Video and earlier today, the platform announced that the film would drop on June 12, 2026 with audio in Kannada, Telugu, Malayalam and Hindi, besides the Tamil original.

One of the highest-grossing Tamil films of the year, Karuppu follows the Kantara template to blend mythology, contemporary social commentary, high-octane action, and an intense courtroom drama. The story follows a desperate father, Mattancherry Sukumaran (Indrans), and his ailing daughter, Binu (Anagha Maya Ravi), who head to Chennai for a life-saving liver transplant. However, the gold they’d carried along to fund the surgery is stolen and if that isn’t bad enough, they are then faced with a corrupt legal system, spearheaded by the influential, money-minded lawyer Baby Kannan (RJ Balaji).
In a moment of immense despair, Sukumaran prays to the guardian deity of the Seven Wells, Vettai Karuppu. The deity assumes human form as a sharp, newly transferred advocate named Saravanan (Suriya). Disguised as a mortal, the deity legally battles the broken, exploitative judicial system from within.
Joining Suriya, Indrans, RJ Balaji and Anagha on the cast are Trisha Krishnan, Swasika, Sshivada, and Natty Subramaniam. Fueled by stellar word-of-mouth consistently pulled in audiences and is reported to have gone past the ₹300 crore milestone globally.
