Karavali, the solo directorial debut of Gurudath Ganiga, who had earlier co-directed Ambi Ning Vayassayatho with Jr Kiccha Sanchith Sanjeev, is all set for its theatrical outing on July 24, 2026. The film stars Prajwal Devaraj in the lead, along with Raj B Shetty and Mithra in pivotal roles. The film also stars Ramesh Indira, Sampadaa Hulivana, KS Sridhar, Rekha Kudligi, Sushmita Bhat, among others. Ahead of the film’s theatrical release, it has been announced that it already has its streaming partner in place.
Zee5 has picked up the digital streaming rights of Karavali and announced the same as part of its upcoming content slate. The film is likely to drop on the platform after the 4-week mark of its theatrical run. Zee5 had earlier picked up Raj B Shetty’s Rakkasapuradhol as well, while also being home to the actor-filmmaker’s directorial, Garuda Gamana Vrishabha Vahana.
Karavali revolves around the Kambala (buffalo race) tradition in coastal Karnataka. The winner of the race is bequeathed a prestigious chair passed down from the royal family, and has been with the local landlord’s family for generations. Any attempt by the villagers to have a new victor in the race is thwarted by the landlord, who stops at nothing to ensure the chair remains with him. For 30 years, the race remains suspended, until a new claim is made for the title. What will transpire this time? That is what the film is about.
Karavali was announced as a Prajwal Devaraj film initially, but closer to the release, the promotions were spearheaded by Raj. Prajwal did not dub for the film, which, the team had initially said was a creative decision to get the dialect of the area right, but later stated that it was because of pending payment issues for the actor. He has not been a part of the promotions since.
