Brown is directed by Abhinay Deo and produced by Zee Studios. Karisma Kapoor, who last appeared on OTT in the 2020 series Mentalhood, is returning to the streaming market with this one. The crime novel City of Death by Abheek Barua was published in 2016, and the web series is a screen adaptation of the book. Kapoor stars as Rita Brown, a pill-popping, alcoholic, and world-weary police investigator from the local Anglo-Indian community, in this drama set against the bleak backdrop of Kolkata. When she takes on the task of solving the complex and savage murder of a young woman from a powerful family, the main investigation begins.
The inquiry and the storyline of Arjun Sinha, a widower struggling with overwhelming survivor's guilt, cross paths as the story unfolds. They team together to apprehend a serial killer who follows a plan he believes God has laid out for him. There is an ensemble supporting cast including Surya Sharma, Jisshu Sengupta, Soni Razdan, KK Raina, and the legendary Helen, in addition to Kapoor.
Being chosen for the Berlinale Series Market Selects segment at the Berlin International Film Festival brought international prominence to Brown before it secured its commercial streaming date.
