The last time Frank Castle aka The Punisher (Jon Bernthal) was seen was in Daredevil Born Again Season 1’s finale, when he made an escape from the prison that New York Mayor Wilson Fisk (Vincent D’Onofrio) put him, following his capture by the Anti-Vigilante Task Force. He’s not been a part of Daredevil Born Again Season 2, instead, he will be seen in The Punisher One Last Kill, a 1-hour television special, that he wrote. The special will drop on JioHotstar on May 12, 2026, a week after the conclusion of Daredevil Born Again Season 2.

The Punisher’s absence in Daredevil Born Again Season 2 has been widely discussed, given that he’s been an ally not only to the devil of Hell’s Kitchen but to Karen Page (Deborah Ann Woll) as well. Turns out that’s because the character is a part of the upcoming Spiderman: Brand New Home movie, besides this special and a major role in Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey.
The Punisher One Last Kill follows Castle as he tries to shed his Punisher persona, only to be pulled back into violence to protect a young girl, mirroring his lost daughter. Confirmed cast members include Jason R Moore, Roe Rancell, Mila Jaymes, Nick Koumalasos, Colton Hill and Jamal Llyod, among others.
Jon Bernthal first played Frank Castle in Daredevil Season 2, and subsequently got a spin-off for his character, which was, however, cancelled after a 1 season run. In fact, Bernthal walked out of Daredevil Born Again Season 1, because he did not agree with the direction the character was going. He subsequently returned when The Punisher writer Dario Scarpadane came onboard as showrunner.
