The release date of Netflix's upcoming crime-comedy Maa Behen has been officially announced for June 4, 2026. The news was announced today, which happens to be lead Madhuri Dixit's birthday, and it was a surprise for her global fans. The film is a rooted story that mixes small-town quirks with a tumultuous family storyline. In Maa Behen, we follow a dysfunctional mother-daughter trio as they deal with a "bada kaand"—a series of incidents that starts small but quickly escalates into a hilariously dire predicament.
The plot revolves around Dixit's character, Rekha, who finds a body in her kitchen while juggling an already chaotic family. She is joined in the crisis by her two daughters, the responsible and grounded Jaya (Triptii Dimri) and the unpredictable wild card Sushma (Dharna Durgaa). To stay alive through the night and avoid legal trouble, the three women need to plan their lies together and keep their curious neighbours in the dark. As they try to cover up the crime, the story explores the tensions inside the family, including disagreements about conservative beliefs and contemporary lifestyles.
Madhuri Dixit, Triptii Dimri, and digital creator Dharna Durgaa constitute the core cast. As the chaos escalates, Ravi Kishan provides crucial support to the women. The ensemble cast also includes Shardul Bhardwaj, Geetanjali Kulkarni, and Arunoday Singh. Bringing together established actors with up-and-coming stars, the project depicts a family thrown into an unprecedented situation. It is believed that the story's comic and dramatic elements would be propelled by the chemistry of the lead actors.
Suresh Triveni, who earlier directed Tumhari Sulu and Subedaar, is at the helm of Maa Behen. Produced by Vikram Malhotra and Triveni, the film is a joint venture between Abundantia Entertainment and Opening Image Films. Triveni and Pooja Tolani collaborated on the script and the dialogue.
A "wild ride" that manages to strike a balance between its daring premise and an emotional truth about familial loyalty is what the creators of Maa Behen are aiming for. Next month, the film will debut exclusively on Netflix for streaming.
