In November last year, Malayalam’s first long-form web series was announced, with Cousins and Kalyanams. Written and created by Praveen Balakrishnan and directed by Vishnu Chandran, the show was meant to capture the relationship dynamics of 6 cousins who meet ever so sporadically, across 25 years. The plan was to tell this story with over 50 episodes, with Priya Prakash Varrier and Roshan Abdul Rahoof leading the cast. However, by the time they actually got around to the actual shoot, Manaswini K Ram made it as the leading lady.

Cousins and Kalyanams had been announced as part of JioHotstar’s slate for 2026 and we now have a streaming premiere date. The first episode of the show will drop on May 22, 2026. The streamer is yet to announce whether the episodes have been split into multiple seasons, or if it will be a 50-week 1 episode each run. Further details are expected closer to the release of the show.

The trailer of Cousins and Kalyanams dropped on April 25, 2026 and the initial reactions were not very welcoming, with audiences not pleased with the show’s long-format story-telling. “This is not a series, it’s a serial,” wrote a user, while another chimed in that it should not be marketed as a web series and should instead make it to TV as a daily soap.

Cousins and Kalyanams is expected to stream in seven languages — Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Marathi, Hindi, and Bengali.
