Filmmaker KM Chaitanya returns to the gangster genre with his next, Balaramana Dinagalu, which, according to reports is based on the real-life characters, but set in a fictional tale. Vinod Prabhakar plays the title character Balarama, a young man who comes from a village to Bengaluru, where he gets caught up in its underworld. In a quick span of time, he becomes a name to reckon in those circles, even though, there were established gangsters like Kotwal and MP Jayaraj around. This is the backdrop of Chaitanya’s film, which will be in theatres soon.


The filmmaker, who began promotions with the release of the first song Shuru Shuru in December 2025, has now revealed the teaser of the film, introducing audiences to the extensive cast, which includes Priya Anand, Atul Kulkarni, Ashish Vidyarthi, Avinash, Ramesh Indira, Vinay Gowda, among others. The teaser, interestingly, describes the film as a love story set in Bengaluru’s underworld of the 80s. It will follow Balarama’s meteoric rise in the underworld and his eventual death, when he was stabbed in a city jail.


Santhosh Narayan is in charge of the film’s music, while HC Venugopal handles cinematography. Ravi Varma, Vikram More and Yogananda DC have been credited for the action. Bigg Boss Kannada 10 fame Vinay Gowda’s character, meanwhile, is said to be based on the real-life gangster Srirampura Kaththi, who murdered Balarama.


Gangster films continue to be the most favoured genre for Kannada filmmakers. This year has Dhruva Sarja’s KD The Devil, Yash’s Toxic, Sanchith Sanjeev’s Mango Pachcha, Prajwal Devaraj’s Mafia, among others.
