Tamil actor Suriya is gearing up for the release of his upcoming film Scene, directed by Malayalam filmmaker Jithu Madhavan. Speaking at the film’s pre-release event in Dubai, Suriya opened up about the love he continues to receive from audiences, his admiration for the director and what convinced him to sign the project.
Suriya said he continues to receive immense affection from audiences even when he takes on fewer films, underlining the importance of their support throughout his career. Recalling how he came on board Scene, the actor revealed that Jithu Madhavan’s narration impressed him within just five minutes. Having admired the filmmaker’s previous works, Romancham and Aavesham, Suriya had hoped to collaborate with him.
“I had quietly manifested the opportunity to work with Jithu, the director of Romancham and Aavesham, because I really love his work. I never imagined it would happen so soon!” Suriya said at the event. The actor also recalled how the narration unfolded, explaining that he usually listens quietly when a filmmaker narrates a story. However, Jithu’s narration was different. “Within five minutes, I found myself breaking into laughter and thoroughly enjoying it!” he said.
Scene is a fresh film, says Suriya
Suriya described Scene as a fresh film that brings together elements of crime, mystery and humour. While the premise could be viewed as a crime thriller or murder mystery, he believes Jithu’s distinctive humour will be one of its major attractions. He also described the film as a family entertainer.
The actor plays a police officer named Inbaraj in the film, which brings him together with Nazriya Nazim for the first time. Praising his co-star, Suriya highlighted her natural performance and screen presence, particularly her character Maya, which he said was beautifully written.
Nazriya Nazim promises a laughter riot
Nazriya Nazim, who plays the female lead in Scene, expressed her excitement about returning to Tamil cinema after 12 years. The actor thanked Jithu Madhavan for trusting her with the role and spoke warmly about her experience working with Suriya and Naslen. Nazriya also promised audiences an entertaining theatrical experience, describing "Scene" as a laughter riot. Her return to Tamil cinema, coupled with her first collaboration with Suriya, adds another interesting dimension to the film.
Meanwhile, Naslen, who is making his Tamil cinema debut with the film, expressed his gratitude to Suriya, Nazriya and Jithu Madhavan for the opportunity. He also conveyed his hope that Tamil audiences would extend the same affection to him that he has received from Malayalam moviegoers. The film marks an important cross-industry collaboration, with Jithu making his Tamil directorial debut and composer Sushin Shyam also venturing into Tamil cinema with the project.

Jithu Madhavan on Suriya’s reaction to the narration
Director Jithu Madhavan recalled that Suriya’s response to the narration was a memorable moment for him. The filmmaker said that getting the actor's approval was what mattered most, and seeing him laugh just five minutes into the narration was a proud moment.
Jithu also indicated that he was holding back substantial details about the film ahead of its theatrical release, suggesting that audiences would discover much of its content only when they watched it in theatres. The director has previously made a mark in Malayalam cinema with Romancham and Aavesham, both known for their distinctive characters and humour. His collaboration with a Tamil superstar like Suriya has consequently raised expectations among audiences across both industries.
Scene releasing in theatres for Deepavali 2026
Produced by Suriya and Jyotika, Scene also features Anandraj, Lal and Raj Priyan. The film's technical team includes cinematographer Vineeth Augustian and editor Ajmal Sabu, while Sushin Shyam has composed the music.
Scene is scheduled to release in theatres worldwide on November 6, 2026, coinciding with the Deepavali festival.
With Suriya's star power, Nazriya's return to Tamil cinema and Jithu Madhavan's reputation for unconventional humour, the film is among the notable Tamil releases to watch out for this festive season. Nayanthara's Mookuthi Amman 2 is also releasing on November 6 as Deepavali release.
