Peddi is one of the biggest Pan-India releases of the year and is set to hit theatres on June 4, 2026. The sports drama is directed by Buchi Babu Sana, who previously won acclaim with the National Award-winning Uppena. Ahead of its release, here’s a look at the film’s cast, story, budget, censor certification, and other key details.

Cast

"Peddi" features Ram Charan, Divyendu, Jagapathi Babu, Viji Chandrasekhar, Janhvi Kapoor, Aadukalam Naren, Kannada star Shivarajkumar, popular comedian Satya, Ravi Kishan, Upendra Limaye, Ajay Ghosh, John Vijay, Tarak Ponnappa, and Shruti Haasan in a special song.

Crew:

Peddi has been produced by Venkata Satish Kilaru's Vriddhi Cinemas, Ishan Saksena, and Sukumar Writings. Mythri Movie Makers are presenting the film in Telugu states. The music for Peddi has been composed by AR Rahman, with the chartbuster Chikiri emerging as a global sensation. Avinash Kolla serves as the film’s art director, while the screenplay has been penned by Vara Prasad Toleti, Krushna Hari, Nagendra Kasi, Venkat Prasad Gandhi, and Sri Raman CH. Acclaimed cinematographer R. Rathnavelu handles the visuals, and National Award-winning editor Naveen Nooli is in charge of the film’s editing.

Plot:

Set in a rural Andhra Pradesh village during the 1980s and 1990s, "Peddi" follows a tribal youth whose dream is to bring a railway line to his village. Constantly ignored because of his marginalized background, Peddi turns to sports to earn recognition and make his voice heard. His journey of overcoming discrimination, proving his identity, and fighting for his community forms the core of the story.

Budget

"Peddi" is mounted on a massive scale, with the makers leaving no stone unturned to bring the sports drama to life. Producer Venkata Satish Kilaru revealed in an interview that the film has been made on a staggering budget of ₹350 crore.  A significant portion of the budget has also been allocated to the cast and crew remunerations.

Since the story is set in tribal villages, much of the film was shot on elaborate sets specially constructed in Hyderabad. Renowned art director Avinash Kolla reportedly designed nearly 12 large-scale sets to recreate the film’s rustic backdrop.

OTT platform

The OTT rights for Peddi were in high demand right from the start, with Netflix securing the digital streaming rights. The film is currently expected to premiere on the platform in July 2026. However, the agreement reportedly includes a flexible release window, allowing the makers to push the digital premiere to August 2026 if the film emerges as a major box-office success and enjoys a longer theatrical run.

Censor and runtime

Peddi has received a U/A certificate from the censor board, with its runtime locked at 3 hours and 9 minutes. The board reportedly directed the makers to modify references to Rajasthan and a specific community, while six objectionable words have been muted. Apart from these minor changes, the film was cleared without any major cuts.

The big twist:

While Peddi initially appears to be a straightforward sports drama, the film reportedly takes a striking turn that has been kept tightly under wraps. Sources suggest a major emotional shift in the narrative involving Ram Charan’s character, which is expected to come as a shock to audiences.

Breaking away from the typical mass hero portrayal of song, action, and larger-than-life dialogues, Ram Charan is said to deliver a deeply restrained and intense performance as a vulnerable tribal youth caught in unexpected circumstances. This transformation is being highlighted as one of the film’s key strengths.

After nearly two years in production, Peddi is finally ready for its big-screen release. Following the setback of "Game Changer", Ram Charan is looking for a strong comeback with this film. With no major South releases dominating the summer window, Peddi has a clear runway at the box office. If it manages to strike the right chord with audiences and generate positive word of mouth, it could give the box office a much-needed boost.
