Thudakkam, the launchpad of superstar Mohanlal’s daughter Vismaya, is set to drop on OTT. The film, directed by Jude Anthany Joseph, who’d earlier made Ohm Shanti Oshana and 2018, among others, was an early August theatrical release and opened to largely positive reviews. Produced by Anthony Perumbavoor’s Aashirvad Cinemas, the film also marked the producer’s son Ashish’s screen debut as the main antagonist. The film also stars Manoj K Jayan, Sai Kumar, Chippy Renjith, Miya George, Bobby Kurian, KB Ganesh Kumar, TG Ravi, among others, with Mohanlal chipping in with a special cameo.
Thudakkam’s digital streaming rights had been picked up by JioHotstar, and the platform recently announced that it would being it to viewers on September 18, 2026. It was earlier rumoured that the Onam biggie Bethlehem Kudumba Unit, which has also been picked up by the streamer, would arrive on that date, but now that Vismaya’s film has booked it, the Nivin Pauly starrer will likely drop a week later. Thudakkam, meanwhile, is said to have made between Rs 40 cr and Rs 50 cr gross during its theatrical outing, which is a commendable start, given that it is Vismaya’s debut project.

Based on a story by Linish Nellikkal, Thudakkam featured music by Jakes Bejoy and cinematography by Jomon T John, Akhil George and Sudeep Elamon. The film has a run-time of 137 minutes only and follows the protagonist Meenu (Vismaya), who lives with her father. What happens when Meenu goes missing after leaving home to attend a bank exam forms the crux of the narrative. The overall tone is to tell a tale of women empowerment, with Vismaya putting her martial arts skills on display.

While most reviews commended Vismaya for a strong start in the Malayalam film industry, they remained divided about the intention of the movie. Several felt that the intended emotions in the tale did not land well, with the action sequences said to be the saving grace.
