Thudakkam Story – Seeking a quiet life, Meenu and her father relocate to a rented home in Kumily's hills. Thudakkam Review – True to its title, Thudakkam ("beginning" in Malayalam) marks an impressive debut for Vismaya Mohanlal. As one of Malayalam cinema's most anticipated newcomers this year, her performance proves she was the ideal choice for Meenu in this story of resilience. Ultimately, it is her commanding presence that elevates a narrative that otherwise feels somewhat cliched and predictable.

While Meenu is initially embraced by those around her, the aftermath of the attack exposes the ugly reality of victim-blaming, as neighbours exchange quiet judgments and fuel malicious rumours. This shift underscores the film's primary core theme - despite repeated violence against women, predators walk freely among us while authorities consistently fail to take preventive action. The director ultimately presents a resolution - physical empowerment and fighting back. The narrative also touches on society’s invasive obsession with prying on women and their conduct; however, these secondary themes remain only loosely developed.
Echoing the appeal of recent titles like Blast and Maa Inti Bangaaram, the film thrives on the thrill of female-led action. Vismaya handles the action sequences with ease, truly coming into her own during the explosive final 15 minutes of the movie. While the first half excels at building suspense—using tense, shadow-drenched tracking sequences with an unnamed stalker to keep viewers unnerved—the second half loses momentum, relying on fluff and predictable beats to reach its climax.
Aashish Joe Antony matches the lead with a menacing, deeply unsettling performance as the villain that leaves a lasting impression. Sai Kumar brilliantly portrays the sheer panic of a protective father, while Manoj K Jayan, Jaffer Idukki, and Gibin Gopinath turn in, albeit brief, appearances that maintain the movie's pace. Meanwhile, Jakes Bejoy’s music seamlessly captures the narrative's tension and emotional depth.
Thudakkam Verdict – Though weighed down by predictable cliches, this thriller on women’s safety still manages to work thanks to the lead performances from Vismaya Mohanlal and Aashish Joe Antony.
