Telugu star Nani’s rustic period drama The Paradise is OTT bound. The film by director Srikanth Odela had a disappointing theatrical outing, but had the comfort of a digital partner being on board. Netflix had picked up the streaming rights a while ago, and now, the platform has announced that it will make it available to subscribers starting October 22. The Paradise will stream with Tamil, Kannada, Malayalam and Hindi audio, besides the Telugu original version. But what’s more is that the version hitting OTT will be a good 23-24 minutes shorter than what came to theatres.

Estimated to have been made at a budget of nearly Rs 200 crore, following production and release delays, The Paradise is reported to have ended its theatrical run with a disappointing Rs 160 cr worldwide gross only. The film is set against the volatile backdrop of 1980s Secunderabad and follows a marginalized tribal community struggling against severe systemic discrimination and fighting for their fundamental citizenship rights.
Nani played Jadal a leader who emerges from the community to spearhead a revolt against local exploiters. Following the film’s dismal theatrical performance, Nani had addressed the criticism, which, he said, was a first for him in his 18 odd years in the film industry. He acknowledged that he and his team had not lived up to the expectations that audiences had of him and his collaboration with Srikanth after Dasara.
