Suriya’s upcoming Tamil film "Scene", directed by Malayalam filmmaker Jithu Madhavan, has received a U/A certificate ahead of its worldwide theatrical release on November 6, coinciding with the Deepavali festival. The film, which also stars Nazriya Nazim and Naslen Gafoor in key roles, is expected to blend crime, suspense and comedy.

The censor clearance comes as the makers intensify promotional activities for the film, which has generated considerable interest owing to the combination of Suriya’s star power and Jithu Madhavan’s distinctive storytelling style.

Suriya calls ‘Scene’ a crime thriller dominated by humour

Speaking at the film’s pre-release event in Dubai, Suriya revealed that "Scene" could be described as a crime thriller or a murder mystery, but believes that its humour will be the biggest highlight.

"You can call it a crime thriller or a murder mystery, but all of that will be overshadowed by Jithu’s humour. It will be a beautiful family entertainer," the actor said.

Suriya also described his experience working with the Malayalam film crew as a refreshing one, even after 28 years in the industry and 48 films. He expressed confidence that audiences would enjoy the film, which he believes will offer an unpredictable and distinctive theatrical experience.

Suriya was impressed by Jithu Madhavan’s narration

At the Dubai event, Suriya revealed that he had quietly hoped to collaborate with Jithu Madhavan after watching the filmmaker’s Malayalam films Romancham and Aavesham. "I had quietly manifested the opportunity to work with Jithu, the director of Romancham and Aavesham, because I really love his work. I never imagined it would happen so soon!" Suriya said.

Recalling the narration, the actor explained that he usually listens quietly when filmmakers narrate stories to him. However, Jithu’s narration made him laugh within the first five minutes, immediately drawing him into the film’s world. Jithu, in turn, recalled how Suriya’s reaction made him feel proud, as the actor began laughing just minutes into the narration.

Suriya plays a police officer; Naslen takes on a different role

In Scene, Suriya plays a police officer named DSP Inbaraj. Although the makers have kept much of the storyline under wraps, the promotional material has offered glimpses of the characters and the film’s mix of crime and comedy. Naslen, who has established himself as a promising young actor in Malayalam cinema, plays Eeshwaran, reportedly a negative-shaded character. The film also marks his debut in Tamil cinema, making it an important milestone in his career.

Nazriya Nazim plays Maya, a character Suriya praised at the Dubai event for its writing and scope for performance. The actress is returning to Tamil cinema after a gap of 12 years, adding another point of interest to the project.

Jithu Madhavan and Sushin Shyam make their Tamil cinema debuts

Scene marks Jithu Madhavan’s debut as a director in Tamil cinema. His previous films, Romancham and Aavesham, earned attention for their distinctive blend of humour, unusual characters and engaging narratives. Expectations are high to see how he adapts his filmmaking style for a Tamil film led by one of the industry's leading stars.

The project also marks composer Sushin Shyam’s debut in Tamil cinema. His collaboration with Jithu Madhavan, following their work together in Malayalam cinema, has added to the anticipation surrounding the film’s music.

Produced by Suriya and Jyotika under their production banners, "Scene" also features Anandraj, Lal and Raj Priyan in key roles.

With its U/A certification secured and the promotional campaign gaining momentum, "Scene" is gearing up for a November 6 theatrical release. Its combination of a crime-thriller premise, Jithu Madhavan’s trademark humour and a cast featuring prominent names from Tamil and Malayalam cinema makes it one of the notable releases to watch out for this Deepavali.
