Superstar Rajinikanth's Jailer 2 is reportedly gearing up for its digital premiere on Amazon Prime Video on November 12, with fresh speculation suggesting that the streaming version could feature additional scenes involving Mohanlal, Santhanam and Vijay Sethupathi. The reported OTT release has generated considerable interest among fans, particularly in Kerala, where Mohanlal's screen time in the theatrical version became a subject of debate.
Neither Amazon Prime Video nor the film's makers have officially confirmed the November 12 streaming date. However, multiple media reports have pointed to the date, in line with the film's reported four-week theatrical window following its October 15 release.
Jailer 2 OTT version: Will fans get to see additional scenes?
One of the major talking points surrounding Jailer 2 has been the screen time allotted to its star-studded supporting cast. Mohanlal's appearance was among the film's most anticipated attractions, given the Malayalam superstar's popularity in Kerala and his association with Rajinikanth.
However, sections of Mohanlal's fan base expressed disappointment over his limited presence in the theatrical cut, with some claiming that portions featuring the actor were trimmed at the last minute.
The reported possibility of an uncut OTT version featuring additional scenes involving Mohanlal, Santhanam and Vijay Sethupathi has therefore generated curiosity. If the streaming version includes extended portions, it could offer audiences a different viewing experience.
However, the availability of an uncut version and the inclusion of additional scenes have not been officially confirmed. Fans will have to wait for an announcement from the makers or the streaming platform to establish whether the digital version will differ from the theatrical release.
Directed by Nelson Dilipkumar and produced by Sun Pictures, Jailer 2 brings Rajinikanth back as Tiger Muthuvel Pandian. The film also features Ramya Krishnan, Yogi Babu, Vidya Balan, Mithun Chakraborty, Suraj Venjaramoodu and other prominent performers.
Box Office: First Tamil film to cross Rs 800 crore
While anticipation builds for its OTT premiere, Jailer 2 has continued to rewrite box-office records. The film has crossed the Rs 800 crore mark worldwide, becoming the first Tamil film to achieve the milestone, according to trade estimates reported on November 2.
According to Sacnilk, the film collected approximately Rs 11.20 crore net in India on its 18th day, taking its domestic net collection to Rs 456.30 crore and India gross to Rs 533.75 crore. Its overseas gross stood at Rs 273.50 crore, taking the worldwide total to approximately Rs 807.25 crore.
The film has also surpassed the domestic gross collection record of Rajinikanth's 2018 science-fiction blockbuster 2.0. With an India gross of more than Rs 520 crore by its 17th day, Jailer 2 emerged as the highest-grossing Tamil film in India, overtaking 2.0, which had collected approximately Rs 519 crore domestically.
The achievement marks another major milestone for Rajinikanth, whose return as Tiger Muthuvel Pandian has helped the sequel attract audiences across India and overseas markets. Its strong theatrical performance has also raised expectations about how far the film can go before its digital premiere.
However, the upcoming release of major films during the Deepavali season could affect its theatrical momentum.
OTT release amid theatrical run
The reported November 12 OTT premiere comes as Jailer 2 continues its theatrical run. Amazon Prime Video is expected to stream the film, although the platform has yet to officially confirm the date.
The proposed four-week theatrical window has also attracted attention from exhibitors.
Whether the makers will stick to the reported OTT schedule or consider a change remains to be seen.
For now, the prospect of an extended version featuring additional scenes, coupled with the film's historic box-office performance, has given Rajinikanth fans another reason to look forward to Jailer 2 on streaming.
