Spider-Man Brand New Day Movie Story: It’s been all work and no play for New York’s friendly neighbourhood Spider-Man, since ‘losing’ the love of his life MJ (Zendaya) and best friend Ned Leeds (Jacob Batalon) to Dr Strange’s (Benedict Cumberbatch) spell that erased everyone’s memories of Peter Parker. His professional life is going great guns, but it does get lonely at the top, for the web slinger. And if staying away from all that’s dear to him is not gut-wrenching enough, his mutation is in overdrive.

Spider-Man Brand New Day Movie Review: Peter Parker/Spider-Man is a few years older and wiser, but at his core, he’s only a kid from Queens, coming to terms with the great responsibilities his powers come with. That and Peter’s inherent goodness and selflessness are the core of director Destin Daniel Cretton’s Spider-Man Brand New Day, with barely any of the fan theories that’d been floating around for a while turning out true.
Well, they got the Sadie Sink character angle right, but all that stuff about Zendaya’s styling during the press tour and potential deaths of fan favourite characters, The Hand, Venom, Man Spider and Hobgoblin, among others, couldn’t have been more off track. Turns out, Brand New Day isn’t all that complicated tale after all; focusing attention on its emotional core – Peter’s world is not complete without MJ and Ned.

In trying to maintain his superhero anonymity, Tom Holland, as Peter, remains behind the mask for the most time, and yet manages one of his most mature and grounded performances. Sadie Sink is impressive, while Jon Bernthal shows that there’s more to The Punisher than just pure rage and guns. Mark Ruffalo, Zendaya, Jacob Batalon, Tramell Tillman, Liza Colón-Zayas and Michael Mondo, among others, are effective in their respective roles.

The visuals are spectacular, although 3D viewing for a bespectacled person isn’t always optimal, and .the action choreography is top-notch, making Brand New Day, an engrossing and enjoyable watch. After all the madness of the multiverse and the overstuffed feel of No Way Home, Brand New Day’s biggest victory is in its grounded story-telling that is all about its protagonist and how he embraces the best of two worlds.
Spider-Man Brand New Day Movie Verdict: Spider-Man Brand New Day presents one of Spidey’s most emotional and personal journeys since putting on the mask. It also doesn’t fail in delivering entertainment with good action, humour and a narrative that’s all heart and soul.
