Scene movie story

Suriya appears as DCP Inbaraj, a shrewd police officer who has investigated several high-profile murder cases. However, he is now keen to resign from his job, and the reason behind his decision becomes one of the major highlights of the story. Meanwhile, Inbaraj finds himself investigating another complicated case involving a psycho killer and a series of murders. Nazriya Nazim plays Maya, an assistant to Inbaraj who helps him with the investigation.

Naslen, who was introduced as the antagonist Eswaran in the trailer, has a significant role in the proceedings. Revealing more about his character would take away some of the surprises the film has in store.

Apart from the investigation, the story also explores the hilarious situations involving Inbaraj's parents, who are themselves retired police officials. Will Inbaraj manage to solve the case? The film takes us through an entertaining investigation filled with unexpected twists and comic situations.

The screenplay has been designed around the kind of quirky characters and humour audiences have come to expect from Jithu Madhavan.

Scene review

Suriya is aiming for a hat-trick of hits with his latest outing, Scene, directed by Malayalam filmmaker Jithu Madhavan. The Tamil actor had earlier revealed that he manifested working with Jithu Madhavan after watching his films Romancham and Aavesham. Having watched Scene, one can understand exactly why Suriya wanted to be part of the filmmaker's world.

Jithu Madhavan brings his trademark style of humour, quirky characters and entertaining situations into an investigative thriller, making Scene a refreshing theatrical experience.

Scene has several high moments throughout its runtime, thanks to a screenplay that gives importance to almost every character. Making an investigative thriller work with a generous dose of humour is not an easy task. However, Jithu Madhavan and his team have managed to crack the formula.

The first half effectively establishes the murder cases, Inbaraj's personality, his shortcomings and Maya's introduction. The narrative maintains an interesting pace while introducing the characters and setting up the central investigation. The surprise cameo by Tovino Thomas is another unexpected moment that works well.

One of the film's biggest strengths is its characterisation. Jithu Madhavan has given his characters a distinct caricature-like quality, with their own mannerisms and behavioural traits. Inbaraj, Maya and Eswaran, in particular, get enough space to establish their personalities and make an impression.

The combination of Suriya and Nazriya Nazim is one of the major highlights of Scene. Both actors deliver impressive performances, and their on-screen chemistry adds considerable value to the narrative. Suriya excels as Inbaraj, bringing the right balance of seriousness, humour and eccentricity to the character. His performance is particularly effective in the comic situations, while he also handles the investigative portions with conviction.

Nazriya is a delight to watch as Maya. Her natural acting style and effortless expressions make the character engaging. The combination of these two actors works beautifully and provides some of the film's most enjoyable moments. Naslen, meanwhile, gets a meaty role as Eswaran. It is certainly a different character for the young actor, who makes good use of the opportunity. Lal also has an important role in the film, and it is refreshing to see him in a comedy-oriented character.

The music department, headed by Sushin Shyam, makes a significant contribution to the film. The background score and songs placed at regular intervals give the narrative a different momentum and enhance several sequences. Interestingly, Scene is one of those films that audiences may not even feel that Anirudh should have been the composer. Sushin's music blends naturally with Jithu Madhavan's filmmaking style and the film's quirky atmosphere.

The other technical departments also deserve appreciation. Ajmal Sabu's editing keeps the narrative engaging, while the cinematography and action sequences are well integrated into the storytelling. The technical aspects complement the film without becoming distractions.

Scene verdict

Scene is a good entertainer that brings together Suriya's star power and Jithu Madhavan's distinctive filmmaking style. The combination of crime, investigation, humour and quirky characters makes it an engaging theatrical experience.

The film also provides Suriya with an interesting character that allows him to explore a different performance space. Nazriya and Naslen add considerable value, while Sushin Shyam's music elevates the overall experience.

Jithu Madhavan has delivered an entertaining Deepavali treat that should appeal to audiences looking for a complete theatrical entertainer.
