Reporting Live Story
Parineeti Chopra plays Sandhya Yadav, a young reporter, while Deven Bhojani plays Vinod Sharma, her cameraman and colleague. The duo sets out to uncover the truth behind illegal sand mining and expose the real estate mafia operating behind the racket.
As their investigation progresses, they encounter a system allegedly influenced by the powerful mafia. Their efforts to expose the truth become increasingly difficult when they discover that even their own news channel is reluctant to telecast their exclusive reports because of conflicts of interest and corporate pressures. Their struggle to bring the story to light forms the crux of the film.
Reporting Live Review
Reporting Live has the ingredients of a commercial thriller, with a socially relevant subject and a female protagonist at the centre of the narrative. However, a promising premise alone is not enough to make the film engaging.
The writing needed to be much stronger to deliver a compelling cinematic experience.
The film follows several cliched storytelling techniques as the narrative progresses. While the newsroom setting and the challenges faced by journalists offer moments of familiarity, the screenplay often feels outdated.
As a journalist, I could connect with the newsroom environment and the professional challenges portrayed on screen. However, the film needed greater realism in its depiction of journalism and the functioning of corporate media houses.
Instead, several portions resemble the formula-driven commercial films of the 1980s and 1990s. The conflict between journalists and powerful interests is an engaging subject, but the treatment lacks the nuance and authenticity required to make the story convincing. The film could have explored the ethical dilemmas faced by journalists and the pressures exerted by corporate management with greater depth.
The climax is another major letdown. Rather than offering a convincing resolution to the central conflict, the film resorts to excessive dramatics and familiar cinematic devices. A more restrained and realistic approach could have made the conclusion far more effective.
On the performance front, Parineeti Chopra and Deven Bhojani are impressive as the journalist and cameraman at the heart of the story. They bring sincerity to their respective roles, but their performances are not enough to overcome the limitations of the screenplay. Amol Palekar and Adil Hussain as senior journalists were also impressive
Despite addressing an important issue, the film struggles to make a lasting impact because of its predictable writing and conventional treatment.
Reporting Live Verdict
Reporting Live starts with an interesting premise about corporate media, journalistic integrity and the dangerous nexus between illegal sand mining and the real estate mafia. However, cliched writing, an outdated narrative approach and an overly dramatic climax prevent it from reaching its full potential.
