Chennai Love Story follows the emotional journey of Nivedita (Sri Gouri Priya), who faces heartbreak in life. To deal with it, she lands in Chennai and crosses paths with Steven Shankar (Kiran Abbavaram), a wannabe director. Nivedita initially finds Steven difficult to accept. However, as they spend more time, friendship slowly blossoms into love. Just when happiness seems within reach, another unexpected event changes the course of the love story.

Sai Rajesh who directed the award winning Baby has penned the story while Ravi Namburii directs Chennai Love story. He attempts to present an emotional love story with a sensitive and unconventional premise. The film succeeds in engaging the audience during its first half by balancing romance, emotions, and music effectively.
The screenplay gradually develops the chemistry between the lead pair without rushing the narrative, making their relationship feel believable. There are also lovely conversations and the Chennai setting feels authentic as well.
One of the film's biggest strengths is Mani Sharma's soulful soundtrack. The songs not only enhance the emotional atmosphere but also help move the story forward in the first half. Combined with meaningful lyrics, the music leaves a lasting impact and becomes an integral part of the narrative.

But one of the major highlights of the film is the interval surprise bang. This aspect comes in as a surprise and turns the film on its head. Not many expect this kind of a changeover in the story and this aspect is thought of well.
However, the major drawback lies in the second half. The narrative shifts towards a lighter treatment with increased comedy, which may not blend naturally with the emotional foundation established earlier. While there are a few touching moments, several emotional scenes lack proper development and conclude rather abruptly.
A notable example is the cab conversation, which introduces an important emotional conflict but fails to explore it in depth. Similarly, certain character arcs, including the female lead's mother's behavior during a crucial sequence, rely on familiar cinematic clichés instead of offering fresh writing.
Coming to the performances, Sri Gouri Priya once again proves why she is considered one of the promising young actresses in Telugu cinema. She delivers an emotionally mature performance, especially in scenes that demand vulnerability and pain. Her expressions and natural screen presence make the audience connect with her character throughout the film.
Kiran Abbavaram delivers one of his more restrained performances in recent times. Playing an orphan with dreams of becoming a filmmaker, he avoids unnecessary heroics and portrays the role with sincerity. His chemistry with Sri Gouri Priya works well, making the romantic portions enjoyable.
Visually, cinematographer Viswal Daniel captures Chennai's coastal beauty with pleasing frames that complement the film's emotional tone. While the production values remain neat, the editing could have been tighter, particularly during the latter half.
Verdict:
On the whole, Chennai Love Story deals with a challenging subject with utmost sincerity. Although the execution isn't consistently strong, the film remains emotionally engaging and benefits greatly from its lead performances and music.
