The team of DC, the upcoming Tamil film starring filmmaker-actor Lokesh Kanagaraj in the lead role, is currently attending the ongoing Cannes Film Festival, where the makers unveiled the film’s trailer on social media on Friday.

What is the trailer of DC about?

After helming films like Coolie, Leo and Kaithi, Lokesh Kanagaraj is gearing up for his acting debut with DC. While the makers had earlier released a glimpse of the film, the official trailer was unveiled during the team’s appearance at Cannes.

The trailer opens with a stark black-and-white landscape, punctuated by cries in the background and the sound of gunfire. Lokesh is introduced as Devadas, while Wamiqa Gabbi plays Chandra. The trailer reveals that Chandra, who hails from Calcutta, was allegedly sold by her parents, seemingly into a brothel, while Devadas appears to be a drifter uncertain about his destination.

As the trailer progresses, it shifts into a barrage of violence, gunfights and chase sequences, hinting that DC will be a gritty action drama layered with romance. Drawing from the iconic tragic romance of Devadas, the film appears to reinterpret the classic characters in a violent, fugitive narrative where the police are in pursuit of the duo.

What else do we know about DC?

Apart from Lokesh Kanagaraj and Wamiqa Gabbi, the film also stars Sanjana Krishnamoorthy, known for her performances in Thug Life and Lubber Pandhu. She plays Parvathy, completing the trio of iconic characters inspired by the classic Bengali romance novel Devdas.

DC is written and directed by Arun Matheswaran and produced by Sun Pictures. The music is composed by Anirudh Ravichander. The film’s technical crew includes cinematographer Mukesh G and editor GK Prasanna, while dialogues are penned by Arun Matheswaran and Franklin Jacob.

The makers are yet to announce the release date of DC.
