Prithviraj Sukumaran’s Onam 2026 release, Khalifa, will make its much-awaited online debut soon. The action thriller, which also has Mohanlal making a cameo appearance, will be streaming on JioHotstar from next week. The movie will also be accessible in Hindi, Telugu, Tamil and Kannada apart from Malayalam on the popular platform from October 9.

The movie had a mediocre run in theatres throughout the holiday season and did not live up to the fans' high expectations. In the meantime, an increasing number of people chose to watch Nivin Pauly's Bethlehem Kudumba Unit rather than the action thriller in theatres due to the former's enormous popularity and light-hearted subject. On October 2, Bethlehem Kudumba Unit started streaming in several languages other than Malayalam on JioHotstar.
The story revolves around Aamir Ali, played by Prithviraj, who gets involved in the gold-smuggling business due to unexpected circumstances. However, his connection with the illegal trade goes beyond his own journey. Aamir comes from a family with a notorious history, as his grandfather Mambarakkal Ahmed Haji, played by Mohanlal, was a prominent smuggler in South India during the 1980s.
Khalifa is Prithviraj's and director Vysakh’s second collaboration after Mammootty-starrer Pokkiri Raja in 2010. The screenplay is written by Jinu V. Abraham, who also produced the big-budget film along with Suraj Kumar. Jomon T. John is the cinematographer, while Jakes Bejoy has composed the music for the movie. Malavika Sharma, Neil Nitin Mukesh, Indrans, and Shammi Thilakan also play pivotal roles in Khalifa. The makers had also announced a sequel to this movie, with Tovino Thomas and Soubin Shahir also playing important parts in it. Glimpses of their characters were shown in Khalifa.
