The makers of Mayan Chapter 1 have released the film’s official teaser. Directed by Jithin K. Jose and starring Jayasurya, the mystery thriller centres around Karuthachan-ootu, an ancient dark sorcery ritual practised among specific traditional Christian households in Kerala. Produced by Rajeev Govindan, the movie is scheduled for a global theatrical release on December 3, 2026.

The teaser opens with Aiswarya Raj portraying a content creator who delves into two of Kerala’s most influential and wealthy business empires: the Parathinkal Jewellery Group and the real estate giant Beefler Developers, owned by the Cherumchalil family. She highlights a dark commonality shared by these elite dynasties: an abandoned, permanently locked room in their ancestral homes. While officially claimed to honour their ancestors, she reveals the space is secretly dedicated to Karutthachan ("The Dark Patriarch"). As the video progresses, scenes of haunting rituals and unexplained fatalities unfold, leading into Jayasurya’s role as an investigator probing the mystery.

The thriller also stars Vijay Babu, Nyla Usha, and Jibin Gopinath in key roles. Co-written by Rafi and director Jithin K. Jose, Mayan Chapter 1 serves as Jithin’s second directorial venture following his hit film Kalamkaval, which starred Mammootty. This project marks the third feature for the production banner behind hits like Kunchacko Boban’s Ordinary and Prithviraj Sukumaran’s Anarkali. Behind the camera, the film features cinematography by Faisal Ali, editing by Praveen Prabhakar, and a score by Mujeeb Majeed. The makers have not yet confirmed if the story will expand into a sequel or prequel.
