Episode 7 of Season 5 dropped a few hours ago and if the sentiment on social media is anything to go by, Eric Kripke’s show is set for a royal pummelling next week, just as much as Game of Thrones did after its finale. The writing’s been on the wall for a while, but it’s been getting progressively worse, especially in this, the last season. Social media has been abuzz with comments about the sheer number of filler episodes that offered nothing by way of plot progression.

Given that episode 6 ended with Homelander finally getting his hands on V1 and literally becoming unkillable, there were high expectations of the penultimate episode. But much of what’s played out was even more irrelevant to the plot. Yes, a few characters died, but The Boys got no closer to the big clash with Homelander. So far, the final season has only served as a lead in for the next spin-off, Vought Rising.

Most of the comments on social media tear the show apart. Comments range from “The finale of #TheBoys next week is going to absolutely suck on a level we haven’t seen since “Game of Thrones” . There is no way they can pull out of this narrative tale spin in time”, to “#TheBoys What an average episode. Watch them have the worst finale ever”, “the boys season 5 might be up there with game of thrones season 8 when it comes to worst final seasons ever”, “Season 5 is genuinely worse than Stranger Things”, “This might be the worst penultimate episode ever. Absolutely dreadful. The ending is going to be so bad. #TheBoys”, among others.

The Boys on Amazon Prime VideoThe alleged spoiler leaks from the final episode of The Boys

Meanwhile, ahead of the May 20 finale, a list of plausible spoilers of how The Boys will end has been doing the rounds on social media. This leak is, supposedly, from the same source that got several other plot predictions right. While many have debunked this, given that the streamer had shown select critics only the first 7 episodes at a screening, going by the narrative development so far, there are some who think it maybe true after all. Several netizens have also pointed out that actor Karl Urban, who plays Butcher on the show, has been ‘liking’ posts critical of the final season.
