Wacky and absurd were but only two of the many adjectives used to describe actor Poorna Mysore’s directorial debut, Mother Promise. A gangster comedy, the film was led by Daali Dhananjaya, who also bankrolled it, and had a plethora of actors on the cast, including Geetha, Chi Guru Dutt, Nagabhushana, Vinaya Prasad, Mahadev Prasad, Naresh Dingri, Srivatsa Shyam, Arun Bharamannavar and Yashwanth MK, among others.
Released in theatres on July 10, the film opened to mixed reviews, with many opining that although set in a fictional Bengaluru, the film’s madcap energy was refreshing. The film, though, did not have a great box office run, with the team chopping close to 20 minutes of run-time to make the narrative even more crisp. That didn’t help much and it took a while for an OTT deal to be announced. Turns out, Mother Promise has been picked up by Zee Network and will drop on the platform on October 2, 2026. It’s big OTT competition that week will be the Malayalam hit Bethlehem Kudumba Unit, which is dropping with versions in Kannada, Tamil, Telugu and Hindi on JioHotstar on the same day.

Mother Promise revolves around Poorna’s character Ryandi, who gets caught in the crosshairs of two dons – Rossi (Dhananjaya), who controls the city’s gambling mafia and Donne Biriyani, who handles the drugs side of business. The film’s comedy is said to be its biggest strength, with a tighter edit suggested by many who caught early screenings. The OTT version will likely be the trimmed one, so Mother Promise will probably make for a better viewing experience now.
Meanwhile, Poorna’s latest as an actor is also a Daali Production, albeit directed by Avinash Balekkala. A relationship drama, the film, Heggana Muddu, which is currently in theatres, pairs Poorna with Arun Sagar’s daughter, Aditi.
