It should come as no surprise, considering that it is home to the original Jailer - Amazon Prime Video bagged the rights for the sequel as well. Prime Video was listed as the official streaming partner during the title credits of Jailer 2, which hit theatres on October 15, 2026. No streaming date is available just yet, but the buzz in industry circles is that the makers settled for a 4-week from theatrical window and even negated the mandatory 8-week gap for the Hindi belt by not releasing the dubbed version in national multiplex chains. Going by that calculation, Jailer 2 can be expected to drop on the platform on or before November 12, 2026.

The Nelson Dilipkumar directorial has been receiving an overwhelming response from fans following its first-day shows. Rajinikanth's return as Muthuvel Pandian has generated considerable excitement, with the sequel attracting attention for its action sequences, star appearances and the continuation of the popular franchise.

While the theatrical response has been encouraging, the film has also sparked debate among fans of Mohanlal. The Malayalam superstar's appearance in the sequel was one of the major talking points ahead of its release, but some of his fans have expressed disappointment over what they believe is limited screen time for the actor. There are also claims among fans that Mohanlal's portions may have been trimmed in the final version.

However, there has been no official confirmation from the makers regarding any cuts to Mohanlal's scenes. The discussion has nevertheless gained traction on social media, highlighting the expectations surrounding the actor's cameo in the Rajinikanth-starrer.

As Jailer 2 begins its theatrical journey, its box-office performance and the audience response to its star-studded cast will be closely watched. The debate over Mohanlal's screen time has also emerged as a talking point among fans, even as Rajinikanth's latest outing draws attention across markets.

Trade estimates have projected a worldwide opening in the range of Rs 120–150 crore, although the final figures will depend on the film's performance across domestic and international markets. The Indian Express reported that the film had earned around Rs 20 crore in India across 5,391 shows at an early stage on its opening day, with overseas markets also contributing significantly to its initial performance.

The film's Hindi-dubbed release has faced a setback in North India, where major multiplex chains PVR INOX and Cinepolis have opted not to screen the version amid disagreements over the reported four-week OTT window. This could affect the film's reach in the Hindi-speaking market, even as it benefits from Rajinikanth's strong following in the southern states and overseas territories
