Malayalam superstar Mohanlal’s upcoming movies are shaping up to be among the most exciting and widely anticipated projects in Mollywood, with L370, Operation Ganga and collaborations with some of the industry’s leading filmmakers in the pipeline.

Mohanlal currently has one of the most ambitious lineups in Malayalam cinema. After the success of Drishyam 3, the superstar has announced a series of projects with prominent filmmakers, and the latest addition is his much-awaited collaboration with Jude Anthany Joseph, who, most recently, launched the actor's daughter with Thudakkam.

Tentatively titled L370, the film was announced in August and has now emerged as one of the major projects in Mohanlal’s upcoming slate. The movie will be produced by Ashiq Usman, and shooting is scheduled to begin next year. While the makers have not revealed the complete storyline or the character details, expectations are already high around the project. More details regarding the cast, technical crew and shooting schedule are expected to be announced later.

Operation Ganga: Mohanlal joins hands with Vishnu Mohan

Another major project that has grabbed attention is Operation Ganga, directed by National Award-winning filmmaker Vishnu Mohan. The film was earlier known by its working title L367, before its official title was announced. Operation Ganga is based on the Indian government’s evacuation mission during the Russia-Ukraine war, when thousands of Indian citizens were brought back from Ukraine and neighbouring regions.

The film has already begun shooting in Georgia and is being mounted on a large scale. Produced by Gokulam Gopalan, the project is being planned as a pan-Indian film. Mohanlal will be joined by a diverse cast that includes Bollywood actor Arjun Rampal, Bhagyashri Borse, Adil Hussain and Tamil actor Parthiban. Several Malayalam actors, including Aju Varghese and Ajin Joy, are also part of the project. The makers plan to release the film in six languages.

Vishnu Mohan has revealed that he began developing the screenplay only after Mohanlal approved the basic idea. The director has also conducted extensive research, including meetings with survivors of the evacuation mission, to bring real-life experiences into the narrative.

The technical team is equally impressive. Dhurandhar composer Shashwat Sachdev is handling the music, while Polish cinematographer Miroslaw Kuba Brozek is behind the camera. Action director Sea Young Oh, editor Shameer Muhammed, production designer Rajeevan, sound designer Bishwadeep Chatterjee and VFX supervisor K V Sanjit are also part of the team.

According to Vishnu Mohan, the film will have an extensive shooting schedule across Poland, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Delhi, Dehradun and Kochi, with around 80 days planned in Georgia.

Mohanlal’s seven-film lineup

L370 and Operation Ganga are part of a much larger lineup that Mohanlal unveiled earlier this year. The actor announced seven upcoming projects with filmmakers including Priyadarshan, Dileesh Pothan, Jeethu Joseph, Sathyan Anthikad, Anoop Sathyan, Jude Anthany Joseph and Vishnu Mohan. The lineup has generated significant interest because it brings Mohanlal together with filmmakers representing very different styles of Malayalam cinema.

His collaboration with Dileesh Pothan, titled Nedumkandam Miracle, is particularly intriguing. The film has a screenplay by Syam Pushkaran and Paulson Skaria, with Shyju Khalid as cinematographer and Sushin Shyam composing the music. Most importantly, it sees Dileesh returning to the director's chair after 2021's Joji.

The actor is also set to reunite with Jeethu Joseph, following the massive popularity of the Drishyam franchise. Adding to the excitement, producer Antony Perumbavoor has confirmed that Drishyam 4 will be made, bringing Mohanlal’s Georgekutty back for another chapter.

Priyadarshan’s 100th film

Another major highlight of Mohanlal’s upcoming slate is his collaboration with veteran filmmaker Priyadarshan.

The project carries additional significance as it is expected to mark Priyadarshan’s 100th film as a director. The Mohanlal-Priyadarshan combination has produced some of Malayalam cinema’s most memorable films, making their reunion one of the most anticipated announcements in the lineup.

Mohanlal is also set to work with Sathyan Anthikad and Anoop Sathyan, further expanding the variety of filmmakers in his upcoming filmography.

Athimanoharam next on the release front

Meanwhile, Mohanlal’s immediate release pipeline includes Athimanoharam, directed by Thudarum maker Tharun Moorthy. The film has already completed shooting and is scheduled to arrive in theatres on December 24, 2026. Mohanlal plays police officer TS Lovelajan in the movie, with Meera Jasmine playing his wife. With Athimanoharam heading towards release, Operation Ganga in production and L370 gearing up for its shoot, Mohanlal has an unusually packed road ahead.

What makes the lineup particularly interesting is the range of genres and filmmakers involved. From a large-scale real-life evacuation drama in Operation Ganga to Jude Anthany Joseph’s L370, Dileesh Pothan’s Nedumkandam Miracle and the reunion with Priyadarshan, Mohanlal appears to be balancing commercial spectacles with projects driven by distinctive filmmakers.

For Malayalam cinema audiences, the coming years could therefore mark another significant phase in the career of one of its biggest stars.
